click button to give

I (Valeska giron) currently serve on the hermosa belmont-cragin board in chicago. this year, our communities were deeply impacted by the ice raids. everyone felt the effects - families, children, and even our local economies and small businesses. but the stories of our children are the ones that struck us the hardest.
one story in particular moved us to reach out to the extended communities we're grateful to be part of. we learned about a local family where the eldest sibling, after losing one parent and seeing the other deported, suddenly had to take on the role of caretaker for his younger siblings. the family was already struggling financially and has since had to move in with an aunt who is also doing her best to make ends meet.
this holiday season, we're asking our friends in batavia, geneva, oswego, elgin, st.charles, and chicago neighbors outside of hermosa belmont-cragin to consider giving in one of 3 ways:

1. donate a new, unwrapped toy or game (ages 4 - 12) drop-offs can be made to our batavia location. 114 e wilson st., friday - sunday from 11am - 4pm, now through december 15th.

2. contribute to our gofundme
the "12 days of christmas" effort - started by another board member, Tacotlan in chicago- will provide haircuts, food, toys, hygiene products, cta cards, coffee, etc. for 12 days in december. any amount truly helps, even $1. (donation button under the holiday gift drive flyer).

3. add a donation during checkout
when you make and in-store purchase, you'll see an optional donation section. there is absolutely no obligation, but if you are able, consider giving, $1, $2, $10 –every dollar will go directly to families affected by ice this holiday season. we thank you, in advance, for your generosity and for helping us bring a bit of hope –and hopefully some joy –to these children and families this holiday season.

with gratitude,

ABOUT LOS GIRON

FROM CHICAGO + guatemalan

Hey everyone! We’re Valeska and Manuel Giron, a husband-and-wife team from Chicago with proud Guatemalan roots. Our journey began when we met on Ohio Street Beach in chicago in 2019. Later, we moved to Antigua, Guatemala, where we deepened our connection to our heritage, falling in love with the traditions, culture, and people.

Inspired by this experience, we returned to Chicago to launch Giron Guatemalan Apparel and Home. We were frustrated by seeing our culture MISREPRESENTED, SO we decided to take ownership of our narrative. Our mission is to preserve and celebrate the artistry, craftsmanship, and cultural traditions passed down through generations. We believe it’s time for people of color to take the lead in elevating and sharing their own cultures.

our business includes our family

"Did you know? Our business is truly a family effort! Our coffee is sourced from my brother, Leonardo Giron, a fellow Chicagoan who moved to Guatemala and now runs P14 Coffee. Our textiles are woven and sewn in Guatemala by my sister-in-law, Averie Floyd, and her team at Casa Flor Designs. My incredible mother, Rosa, a seamstress with over 40 years of experience, meticulously crafts our pillows. our mugs are made by my cousin Giovanna and her husband Noel, whose business, Ordo Tools, is based in Denver, Colorado. my amazing wife Valeska giron, is the graphic designer, interior designer, + photographer and so many other things behind our brand. Working with family is a privilege, and I am incredibly grateful for their support."
